Our Purpose
Many students and educators across Chicagoland begin the school year—or return from winter break—without reliable backpacks or the basic supplies essential for both learning and teaching. Whether supplies are lost, worn out, or never provided, lacking these essentials can hinder student achievement and limit educators’ ability to deliver effective instruction.
Our two-part Backpack Drive addresses this challenge by providing backpacks and supplies twice a year—before school starts and again after the holiday break—ensuring that students stay equipped and confident, and educators have the resources they need to create a supportive and productive classroom environment throughout the entire academic year.
Why Twice A Year?
Backpacks wear out, supplies run low, and some students begin the year without the essentials they need. Educators also face challenges when classrooms lack basic essentials, which can affect their ability to teach effectively and support students.
By providing backpacks and supplies both before school starts and again after winter break, we ensure that students remain prepared and confident throughout the year—and that educators have the basic classroom essentials needed to create a productive learning environment.
